The NWP SAF has developed three One-Dimensional Variational Analysis (1D-Var) packages:
These software packages retrieve physical parameters from satellite instrument data by using a first guess taken from an NWP model.
The three packages have different characteristics and cover a range of instruments. An overview document (pdf) compares the packages to help users choose the best one for their application.
